Sleep with a Purpose. Travel Sustainably.
When you stay with us, you’re not just checking into a hotel room—you’re becoming part of something much bigger. The MAGDAS Hotel demonstrates how combining social purpose with business operations leads to real success. In short: We don’t operate to maximize financial profit, but to promote social inclusion and protect our planet. What does that look like in our day-to-day hotel operations? It’s not complicated at all—but it’s consistently thoughtful.
Our Social Impact. Diversity as our greatest strength.
Everyone can do good work—you often just have to open the door for them. MAGDAS deliberately gives people with refugee backgrounds or those facing barriers in the job market a real chance. It’s their talents, their language skills, and their unique cultural backgrounds that make our hotels such cosmopolitan, vibrant places.

Our Training Focus
Since 2017, as part of our own specialized program, we’ve been training young people to become professional hospitality professionals in three apprenticeship tracks (chef, hotel management, and restaurant service). With intelligence, hard work, and passion, they’re preparing for their careers—and 17 of them have already successfully completed their apprenticeships with us!

Real numbers, not just lip service
Over 60% of our team has or has had difficulty accessing the job market. Well over 100 people with refugee backgrounds have started their professional careers here. Our team now brings together over 24 different native languages.

Our Support Behind the Scenes
Because life doesn’t stop at the time clock, our team is never on its own. Our MAGDAS social counseling service supports employees with professional and personal challenges—about 150 times last year alone. That provides real support.
Sustainability with a significant impact. Scientifically proven.
For us, urban sustainability means using existing resources instead of sealing off new land. Our Vienna City hotel location—a former priests’ residence from the 1960s—was thoroughly renovated to be climate-friendly in collaboration with BWM Architects.
An overview of our awards and partner projects demonstrates that we also live sustainability in our day-to-day operations.

Eco-Label
We have held the Austrian Environmental Label since 2023. For you, this means the highest standards in ecology, quality, and healthy living—from water-saving fixtures to chemical-free steam cleaning.

Verified Social Enterprise
Officially certified as a Verified Social Enterprise by the Federal Ministry of Labor and Economy. This confirms in black and white: For us, social and environmental value comes first and foremost.

PKF Hospitality Award
PKF Hospitality has recognized us as one of the leading sustainable hotels in all of Europe. This is wonderful proof that social commitment and first-class hospitality go hand in hand.

BOKU Vienna Partnership
In partnership with BOKU Vienna, volunteers have transformed our former parking lot into a blooming garden. A project close to our hearts, promoting biodiversity and providing a cozy space to enjoy time in nature.

Energy from Deep Below
In the summer we cool and in the winter we heat our building in the 3rd district using 18 geothermal probes that extend an impressive 140 meters deep into the ground. The electricity for this is supplied by our rooftop PV system; we cover peak demand with green electricity and district heating.

The Hum of Bees Instead of Noise
Where there used to be concrete parking lots, a genuine natural garden now flourishes behind the hotel in the 3rd district. Together with volunteers from BOKU Vienna, we used crowdfunding to plant 400 plants, shrubs, and four trees.

Focus on Resources
We save an average of 2 liters of water per toilet flush thanks to smart fixtures. Our room carpets are made from high-quality recycled materials, and energy-saving LEDs illuminate the entire building in the 3rd district.

Upcycled Design. History with Style.
Who says eco-friendly can’t be chic? When it comes to our interior design, we prioritize character over off-the-shelf solutions. Together with Materialnomaden and designer Daniel Büchel, we’ve preserved the soul of this historic building in the 3rd district and combined it with treasures found at flea markets. Each of our 85 rooms at the MAGDAS Hotel Vienna City is an absolute highlight.

The Confessional Bar
Our special eye-catcher in the foyer! The bar was painstakingly crafted from the old reception desk of the priests’ residence and a genuine confessional. The original stone floor and the elevator from the ’60s have also been preserved.

Furniture with a History
The tables at the MAGAS Vienna City restaurant are made from the wood of the building’s former built-in cabinets. Around 300 chairs (including originals by architect Franz Schuster) were restored in Caritas workshops. Even 43 headboards once served as cabinet doors! Have you spotted them yet?
Thoughtful Down to the Last Glass
In the rooms, you’ll drink your water from stylish glasses and bottles that have been upcycled from old wine and spirits bottles. The cushions were designed by the Viennese design collective Wiener Times, and the unique works of art come from Atelier 10.
